Porsche has firmly set foot in the door of the world of electric vehicles. Following in the footsteps of other manufacturers, Porsche has launched the Taycan as a flagship product and so far it is only an electric vehicle offering. It’s no surprise that it performs well, as anything with the Porsche seal of approval typically does.

The Taycan is smooth, luxurious, and fast, a great mix for their first shot at an electric vehicle. But what if you wanted something a little more livable and sturdy? Something you wouldn’t be afraid to put the dog and the kids in and cross country? Well, Porsche has thought of that too.

The Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is the crossover cousin of the Taycan. Much like an Audi Allroad, it has the same safety features of sports cars, with the added benefit of extra ground clearance and a bit of protective body trim. Let’s see why the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is such a special car.

Porsche has updated its first production electric vehicle. The rugged, cross-country ready brother of the ultra-luxury Taycan. Mechanically, the Cross Turismo is almost identical to the regular Taycan. It contains the same 93 kWh battery under the floor and powers the same engines with the same power output on all options in the Cross Turismo model range (4, 4s, Turbo and Turbo S. It even uses the same configuration of double wishbone suspension front, rear multi-link combined with adaptive air springs and optional four-wheel steering.

But there is a bigger trunk though, in terms of gross capacity its 405-liter cargo area is not as spacious as the massive 640-liter cargo space of the Mercedes E-Class wagon, but it does give the Cross Turismo additional functionality and ease of use compared to normal. Taycan. Unfortunately, the passengers in the rear seats no longer have legroom, but the feeling of space throughout the cabin is significantly improved thanks to an additional height of 36 mm.

Despite all this, the curb weight only increased by 55 pounds, but with a total weight of 5,194 pounds, this wagon is still quite heavy. The super nifty air suspension adapted to the more sophisticated options of the Cross Turismo lifts the body up to 30mm, and to complement Porsche has added a “gravel mode” which adapts the distribution of torque, the response of the throttle which, combined , gives the Cross Turismo an increase in performance in bad road conditions. You can also the option with an “all-terrain design package” which gives you those little duck-style nicks before and after each wheel to protect you from stone chips and whatever the wheels are lifting.

The jack-of-all-trades

No model of the Taycan is slow. Times of 0-62MPH range from 2.9 seconds to 5.1 seconds. In terms of actual range, the Turbo S is the least efficient with a claimed total range of 241 miles from the 83.7 kWh usable portion of its battery, which equates to roughly 2.5 miles from each kilowatt of charge. The Taycan 4SCT does not compete with other electric cars, but competes with other big station wagons, of which nowadays there is a lot of choice. In terms of handling, driving pleasure, user-friendliness, comfort and price, the Cross Turismo is a machine much closer to the Audi RS6 and Mercedes-AMG E63 than anything electric. In fact, it looks like its closest rival comes in the form of another Porsche; the Panamera Sport Turismo.

Although, given that the Audi e-Tron GT is built on the same VW Audi Group EV platform as the Taycan, it won’t be long before Audi takes the opportunity to offer a similar version in its lineup. Until then, the Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo occupies a truly unique position in the automotive market. The Cross Turismo is the most complete super car available for purchase today. It’s by no means the biggest or the most practical, however, doing everything a wagon should do and having all the Porsche trim on top, it’s a great kit.

As similar as their fundamentals are, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is a different car in terms of looks, capability and overall intent. It’s comfortable and dynamic, a feature of extremely convincing versatility, it ends up feeling more capable and liveable, making it a combination that is pure magic. Porsche has improved its own game, and with a starting price of around $ 110,000, it’s by no means cheap. Ultimately, however, it just might turn out to be one of the most complete and complete electric cars on sale today.
