Seahawks vs Texans: the analysis

Discontent mounts in Seattle against the Seahawks this season, but they’re still technically in the hunt for wild cards.

With Russell Wilson, anything is possible, and this gimmicky victory will put them down to a 5-8 record. What will be essential for the Seahawks is an efficient performance and an exit without sustaining more injuries.

However, things have gone from bad to terrible for the Houston Texans. They are the only team officially eliminated from the playoff hunt and have once again lost starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor to injury.

This means Davis Mills is coming back under center, as is their form after his long winless streak as a starter.

The Texans are just emerging from a 31-0 Indianapolis Colts blowout. The week before, they had been beaten 21-14 by the New York Jets.

There were a few bright sparks when Tyrod Taylor returned to quarterback, including their upset 22-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

However, with Taylor back on the sidelines with a wrist injury, it’s hard to see how they’ll return to anything other than form where they were regularly well beaten.

In the eight games where Davis Mills took the majority of snaps, the Texans have been beaten by at least ten points on seven occasions.

The Seahawks may not be the dangerous offensive team they once were, but even they can secure a big win with confidence at NRG Stadium.

The eight-point gap is ugly, however. The most realistic margin of victory to beat him is ten points, so play on it and take the -9.5 AC spread to give it an above-par value.

Mills to obtain construction sites

The Houston Texans are expected to be well beaten on Sunday. However, that doesn’t mean Davis Mills can’t register passing yards.

The Seahawks have the worst passing defense in the league, placing 32nd and allowing 275.8 yards per game.

Things will have gotten even more difficult for them after losing star safety Jamal Williams following a season-ending shoulder surgery.

In his six-game starter period, Mills has proven he can rack up yards. Three times he broke a 220.5-point line, shattering over 300 yards twice.

Supporting Mills for yards doesn’t contradict the Seahawks’ support for a big win, either.

When Mills threw for 243 yards against the Indianapolis Colts, they were always beaten 31-3.

Mills also had 310 yards in his last start against the Los Angeles Rams, where the Texans were beaten down 38-22.

Mills has the ability to put up a decent distance in the event of a loss, and the Seahawks secondary looks ready to give it up.

Lock in Lockett

The Seattle Seahawks may have struggled this season, but Tyler Lockett is once again finding ways to shine. He suffered from a drop in form earlier in the season, but is now back to his best dominant level.

In his last five games, Lockett has collected at least 68 receiving yards on four occasions. The only time he didn’t was against the Green Bay Packers where he only had two catches for 23 yards.

This, however, was a night when Russell Wilson was visibly struggling after being fired from an injury.

All the games Lockett broke the 65.5-yard line weren’t as close as the 68 yards he had last week against the San Francisco 49ers. The other three were 142, 115 and 96 yard games.

Lockett is in fantastic shape and ready to do some damage against a demoralized Texas defense.
