TEDDY THE KNIGHT (system – Adrian Wintle, local tracks)

Adrian Wintle has a nice recent record at Bath and Chepstow, the two closest tracks to his Gloucestershire base. Since racing resumed after the first lockdown, if we had backed all of its runners on these two sites, we would have found 20 winners out of 79 bets for a huge profit of £83.63 (+106% on turnover ) for a £1 bet at SP. TEDDY THE KNIGHT is probably one for the handicaps further down the line, but he ran with promise in another inaugural hurdle at Hereford last time out, finishing fourth 66-1, and might be able to squeeze into the frame at a high price (33-1 at the time of writing).

LADY OF THE NIGHT (system – Chepstow chases, pace angle)

Lead runners enjoy a huge advantage on the chase course at Chepstow, winning 28.6% of their starts in the current jump season, compared to 17.7% for leading runners and just 3% for heist horses. LADY OF THE NIGHT made an encouraging hunting debut at Wetherby last month as a runner-up to Maid O’Malley, a form that was cleared when the three-and-a-half-length winner followed at Carlisle. The pair pulled a whopping 29 lengths ahead of third and Lady Of The Night could be hard to catch if they duplicate that rhythmic effort.

FAROUK DE CHENEAU (system – Nicky Henderson, mid-season wind farm)

Nicky Henderson has an excellent record with horses returning from wind surgery at this time of year, those racing in January, February or March land 13 of their 46 starts for a profit of £40.79 for a stake £1 level at SP. Those racing in the handicap hurdles were six out of 12 for a profit of £38.50. FAROUK DE CHENEAU might be able to defy a long absence in this 2m5f handicap hurdle.

KING OF TIME (system – Charlie Appleby, 3-year-old gelding newcomers)

As of the start of 2017, trainer Charlie Appleby has a 16-of-51 record with his three-year-old gelding newcomers (31.4% strike rate) and backing them blind would have earned a profit of 23, £77 to a £1 tier stake in SP (+46.6% on revenue). KING OF TIME looks like a likely guy on paper and can make a winning debut.

LAGUNA VENETA (system – father New Bay, 3 years old, recent run)

The three-year-old offspring of the New Bay stallion has a record 37 of 143 (25.9% success rate) when she got back on the track fairly quickly (within six weeks of her previous outing). Backing all qualifiers would have earned a profit of £31.79 at a £1 upgrade at SP and LAGUNA VENETAof a yard that is doing well in early median bidding, is set to build on its strong 11-1 fourth place on a slightly shorter trip here 29 days ago.

STRATEGIC FORTUNE (system – father Power in Wolverhampton)

Sire Power’s offspring have a record 19 of 123 on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface and backing them all would have netted a profit of £106.00 on a £1 Tier stake at SP. There are two qualifiers in tonight’s final – STRATEGIC FORTUNE and Power Of Lazarus – with a preference for the first name, who clocked up a good time when he finished second over 1m at Newcastle on his last outing. Step up to 9.4f might be fine.
