Dozens of local residents and vacationers have come together to help fix a popular rockpool and make it safer for everyone.

The Mousehole Rockpool restoration saw approximately 100 volunteers flush the community pool of sediment and rocks, clean the pool, and plug a leak with concrete so the pool could hold its water at low tide and be used longer by anyone. the community.

The Mousehole Pool Repair Project in Cornwall was led by the Friends of Mousehole Rockpool.

Chris Yacoubian, a Mousehole resident and one of the project managers, said: “About 100 people came from time to time throughout the day. It was a true community effort at its best.

The work, which was due to start in March, was delayed by both Covid and the need to obtain a special license from the Marine Management Organization took place on Saturday July 10.

Chris Yacoubian said the Rebuild South West team was on hand throughout the day to provide expertise and skills.

The day the volunteers helped remove rocks and boulders, remove weeds, identify leaks before repairs to the concrete path on the left side of the pool were done.

Chris said the outcome was already better and now hopes to host a second community repair day in September to complete the work once the tourist season is over.

He added, “We hope to make another day in September and make it an annual Mousehole Rock Pool Festival with a barbecue, food, drink and weed and rock cleaning.”
