A holiday tradition returns to downtown Windsor this Friday.
The 17th Annual Mikhail Holdings Holiday Turkey Contest takes place at the CIBC building at 100 Ouellette Avenue.
Joe Mikhail is a partner of Mikhail Holdings and says that 500 turkeys, as well as potatoes and corn will be distributed.
He says there will be enough turkeys and there is no need to queue overnight.
âThere are people who come in at midnight, two or three in the morning and wait in the cold, they don’t need to do that,â he continued. âWe’re going to start giving them out around 8:30 am-9am and if you’re in line at 7am, it should be 7:30 am.â
He says his family is humbled by the experience.
“Not everyone eats every night, not everyone can enjoy a turkey on Christmas and not everyone can have the festivities that go with it and the fact that we are humble enough and capable enough to do it. to do, it gives us great pleasure. ”
He says last year’s giveaway happened, but it was different.
âWe delivered them to every house. So we had the police, we had volunteers, we had names and we took them to the 500 people, so that was an experience in itself,â he said. .
Mikhail says the turkey distribution will start around 8:30 a.m.
He says masks must be worn at all times and calls on everyone to follow all public health safety measures.
