Go to Vegas Go to Del Mar after winning on Rodeo Drive

During their most recent respective trips to the post, Go to Vegas (Goldencents) was ridden by Flavien Prat to a popular victory in the GII John C. Mabee S. while stablemate Luck (The joy of the kitten) had Umberto Rispoli in irons for a Tier 1 allocation tally at Del Mar on August 7. The main turf racers on the circuit swapped out their mounts for the GI Rodeo Drive S. Was the Italian and Going To Vegas which narrowly turned out the best over Frenchman Reinsman and Luck, locking in a trip to the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf in the process.

Rispoli, who had ridden Going To Vegas in her three starts before the Mabee, propelled the 4-year-old straight into the lead from gate four and controlled the pace for an opening quarter in: 24.35 and a half -mile regular in: 48.72. Prat had the odds set worse than the midfielder and on the back of the longshot Ride for the cause (Ride candy {Arg}), but asked for acceleration with just under five-eighths of a mile left after Mike Smith clicked Red Lark (Ire) (Epaulette {Aus}) outside Luck. Luck was on in a third of three widths and strike distance as they ran around the second turn and the stage was set when Prat instructed his mount to take him to the leader in the upper section. . Taking advantage of the easy tempo, Going To Vegas responded to his rider’s requests and sprinted the final two stages in a slippery time: 22.49 to keep the luck at bay.

“I am delighted with the performance of both horses,” said coach Richard Baltas of the 1-2 finishers. “Going to Vegas at tactical speed and loves to go a mile and a quarter and she showed it. It was a great ride by [Umberto]. My other horse, Luck, has really improved in class. I was really happy with her performance, she really improved in a Grade I, I look forward to the future with her.

Going To Vegas is yet to be nominated for the Breeders’ Cup and is expected to be completed by $ 100,000.

Claimed from its breeders and trainer Peter Miller for $ 50,000 on a win at Santa Anita in June 2020, Going to Vegas stopped a seven-race skid that included four straight runner-up efforts with a 3 3/4 tally in the GIII Santa Ana S. over a mile and a quarter to Santa Anita on March 27, with Rispoli in charge for the first time. A fifth with no Maxim Rate alibi in the GI Gamely S. in Arcadia on May 31, the bay added a popular 3 1/2 length victory at Del Mar on July 16 before doubling its stake graduated with a Defeat of 2 1/4 length of Dogtag (War front) in the Mabee on September 4.

Genealogy Notes:

With this victory, Going To Vegas becomes the first Grade I winner for Goldencents, the two-time hero of the GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Going to Vegas is 5 × 4 inbred to Storm Cat and is related to one-year-old filly Brand Loyalty (Grazen) and a foal by Munnings. Hard to Resist returned to Grazen during the final breeding season.
