Cornwall’s fish and chips on the UK’s best chippie list

Cornwall is home to six of the UK’s best fish and chips, according to the latest official guide.

The official guide to quality fish and chip shops in the UK 2021 has been published by representatives of the fish and chip industry, the National Federation of Fish Fryers (NFFF) in collaboration with Sarson’s Vinegar.

With 382 million meals in fish and chips consumed each year in Britain, and ‘chips’ and ‘fish & chips’ occupying the top two places as the country’s most popular British dishes, it is clear that the love for this British tradition shows no signs of fading. .

All the businesses listed in the guide are members of the NFFF Quality Accreditation system. This diagram identifies Fish & Chip stores that have undergone a thorough assessment of premises and equipment, working practices, hygiene standards and management controls, as well as of course quality and taste of fish and chips.

We took a look at the guide and compiled a list (in order of appearance) of the best quality fish and chip shops here in Cornwall.

Fraser’s Fish and Chips

Fraser’s Fish and Chips is the latest company from the owners of the multiple award-winning Harbor Lights in Falmouth. They also have a shop in Helston and have a variety of Cornish fish on the menu every day, including favorites cod, haddock and plaice. Based in Falmouth, this family business has won many acclaimed awards in the fish and chip industry and has been a hit with locals and tourists for many years. They have a range of traditional fish and chip dishes, including their top cod and haddock vendors.

This award-winning fish and chips offers the “best” selection of cod, haddock, plaice, lemon sole and many other traditional fish options, which are freshly cooked to the “highest quality”.

Kellaway Fish and Chips

Formerly known as the Golden Fry, this family-owned business has been a popular take-out store in the village of Threemilestone, on the outskirts of Truro, for over 24 years. A reviewer on Tripadvisor says that they regularly drive from their house in Penzance to Bodmin for fish and chips at Welcome Stranger: “I live in Penzance and my mom lives in Mount Hawke and when I go to see her we often go to ‘to Foreign Hospitality.
