Cornwall football preview: Cornwall Senior Cup, SWPL derby

There is some Cornwall Senior Cup action this weekend as the Trophy kicks off for the 2021/22 season.

At the start of the 2pm kick-off, Helston Athletic will travel to the South West Peninsula League (SWPL) on the west side of Wadebridge. They will look to get back on their way to victory after losing a two-goal lead to a 3-3 draw against Millbrook on Wednesday night. Read the report of that match here.
Elsewhere in the Cup, Jack Bray-Evans could make his Falmouth Town debut as they face St Dennis at Bickland Park. The forward has left rivals SWPL Newquay and is already in double digits for league goals this season. Falmouth have won all 12 games they have played in all competitions so far this campaign

There is also a local derby in the SWPL as Wendron United welcome Penryn Athletic to Underlane. Both teams enter the game on a winning run after Penryn beat down St Dennis 8-1 in the league last time around.

Meanwhile, Wendron defied the odds of beating Western League Division 1 Bishop Sutton 2-1 to advance to FA Vase’s next round, before beating St Dennis 3-2 in the league on Tuesday night.

Helston Athletic Women will start her FA Women’s Vitality Cup run on Sunday when she travels to face Torquay United Women in the first round of the competition.

There is no match for the Helston Women’s Development team in the Cornwall Women’s Football League, but Wendron United Women will have the opportunity to claim their first win of the season when they play against Wadebridge Town.

Penryn Ladies faces a trip to Callington Town. Penryn has only played once this season and drew 1-1 at Mousehole.
