Cincinnati Opera House Holds Open Casting Call for Supernumerary Roles for 2022 Summer Festival

For anyone who dreams of appearing on the Cincinnati Music Hall stage, the Cincinnati Opera is ready to give you your moment in the spotlight. No singing or acting skills required!

The Cincinnati Opera will hold an open casting call for supernumerary roles for the company’s 2022 summer festival. An information and casting session is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the May Festival rehearsal room at the Music Hall. Entrants must enter through the Music Hall stage door, 1244 Central Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Supernumerary or “super” roles are non-singing, non-speaking roles, much like extras in film and television. Supers will share the stage with internationally renowned artists and work with famous directors and conductors. No experience is necessary and all great positions are filled on a voluntary basis. People of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders and abilities are welcome and encouraged to apply. Those interested will have to wear a mask and provide proof of vaccination to participate in the casting.

The Cincinnati Opera is seeking candidates for the following roles:

Bohemian

Commitment Period: May 24-June 25, 2022
Performances: June 18, 23, 25, 2022
10 necessary supers

  • 4 male servers
  • 1 male chef (larger body preferred)
  • 1 male public artist
  • 4 male leaders/townspeople (can be female, but will be dressed as male)

The Penzance Pirates

Commitment period: June 9-July 10, 2022
Performances July 7, 8, 10, 2022
1 super necessary

  • 1 older woman introducing Queen Victoria

Beaver and Patience

Commitment period: June 21-July 30, 2022
Performances: July 21, 23, 24, 28, 30, 2022
2 supers needed

  • 1 black child presenting as male, ages 6-8
  • 1 black child presenting female, ages 7-10

Aida

Commitment period: June 27-July 31, 2022
Performances July 22, 26, 29, 31, 2022
50 super needed

  • 35 male guards, townspeople, strongmen, soldiers, officers
  • 15 guides and inhabitants of the city

The Cincinnati Opera’s productions of La Bohème, The Pirates of Penzance and Aida will be presented at the Music Hall’s Springer Auditorium, and Castor and Patience will be presented at the School for Creative and Performing Arts’ Corbett Auditorium. Invigilators should attend approximately 10 to 15 rehearsals. Daytime rehearsals can be scheduled.
