Car drives the wrong way in traffic at Eastern Green, Penzance, Cornwall

This is the moment the cars were forced out of the way as a confused driver found himself in oncoming traffic this afternoon.

The photograph took the dual carriageway section of Eastern Green, past Morrisons supermarket in Penzance.

Crystal Major posted it on Facebook with the caption, “I can’t drive there lover.”

It shows a red Citroën C3 heading into two lanes of oncoming traffic, having apparently taken the wrong “exit” from the Chy An Mor roundabout.

Crystal, who watched it unfold, added: “The silly season is upon us. PZ today.”

As the cars rushed out of the way and avoided a collision, the driver of the Citroen – no doubt quite panicked by now – finally managed to stop and then made a three-point turn to face the the right direction, while the rest of the expected traffic, Crystal said.

Coincidentally, a police car can be seen in the background of the photo, across the road, heading in the right direction. It is not known if they became involved afterwards.

However, it is understood that – somewhat miraculously – there were no collisions following the incident.

People responded to the photo on Facebook in disbelief, with one person simply declaring, “Speechless.”

Others were a bit more vocal, writing, “Damn! Needs to test her eyes.”

And another said it was an example of the state of the roads in August, saying: ‘The driving is worse than I’ve seen this year.’

Although one person generously pointed out, with firm irony: “Maybe they’re going the right way and the other hundred people are going the wrong way?”
